I had been playing w/ the idea of upgrading from the HUGE 3.5″ 500GB HDD that I’ve had for a few years now to something ALOT smaller for when I have to travel to various exotic locales (military deployments :-p) and I’ve dealt w/ Toshiba drives before and had never had any major issues w/ them. Once again, I wasn’t let down. The size of the drive and the price was perfect for me. I’m not too worried about data transfer rates and all, but it seems to move data pretty quickly though since it is firewire.

I bought this even after reading a number of bad reviews here at Amazon. The price looked good for what I wanted this for. After connecting to my computer the software started up and I saw two windows that flashed by so quickly I had no idea what they were. After making a choice of the type of back-up I wanted, I clicked on the start button and the transfer began but stopped and froze after 5% of the job was completed. I tried uninstalling and reloading several times but had no luck. I then called Toshiba, but they had no interest and referred me to NTI for what Toshiba called a software problem. The phone call was answered by someone at NTI who did not bother to ask any information about myself (name or e-mail address). It was “suggested” that I run Windows disk-check, which I did but found nothing wrong. I was also told to run a memory test, which I did using a download of Windows Diagnostic Test. The test showed the ram to be good. I called NTI back on Tuesday morning (after the Memorial holiday) but no one answered the phone at 0810 PST. It seems no one cared that they were selling duds. I shipped it back today to Beach Camera–very agreeable people. I will never buy another Toshiba product.
Back up and System restore – Edward M. Quinn III – MANASSAS, VA USA
This product was definitely what I needed. I was able to back up everything I needed on my pc as well as on my ps3 so that I could swap out the internal Hdd in the ps3 and upgraded it to something larger. I love the color scheme as well as the size of this external Hdd. I is slim and really takes up no room at all.
